The Golden Compass could be considered a benign gateway to more stories that lead a young reader away from their belief in God. It is generally considered wrong to shake the belief of the youngster and is more acceptable to challenge the beliefs of an adult. In my opinion, it is best to challenge the beliefs at about the age of 30 when most people have reached stability. Education requires at least 3 pillars and faith in God is one of 7. Anyone familiar with tables would opt for more rather than less pillars of education. This author is no friend of mine as a teacher and mother. Harry Potter anyone?
