Your Family's Reaction to Adoption

Be prepared for a range of reactions from parents and family members, when you announce your plan to adopt.
Re: Your Family's Reaction to Adoption
I must admit. At first I wasn't too sure how things would be if my sister adopted a new baby. But as time passed, I got to know and understand the love for this little bundle. She is so precious. I say talk to your family, keep an open mind. They will have their opinion and sometimes it won't be want you want to hear but believe me, it's all up to you. My sister used http://www.myadoptionforms.com/booklet.html. They helped with all the paperwork and stuff. GL and God Bless. Lesley

Re: Your Family's Reaction to Adoption
Yes, I agree, it IS your decision. But please know that a child is a life changing decision. Some feel it's nice to have someone to dress up or show off but the truth of the matter is, these kids have been neglected one way or another. They need more than just dress up, they need support and love. And I love the saying, it takes a village to raise a child. Family and friends will help make this experience an even easier one if they can give that same love and support to you AND the child. Just show them you are serious. If they don't get it, do it your way. Jenn

Re: Your Family's Reaction to Adoption
I think, although you want the approval of your family and friends, adoption is ultimately your decision. Try your best to open their minds to the idea of adoption but don't let their views cloud the real reason you are adopting. You've got a lot of love to give. Why not to a child that wants it! People will see later that it was meant to be. Jill
