Just like everything else in life, you have to be in the middle of the spectrum. In my house, we each have our daily chores which are expected to be done regularly for no compensation. It is life, and life does not always pay for hard work. For example, keeping beds made and rooms clean are a non-compensatable chores. Their beds, their rooms, their jobs! Extra chores like helping with laundry, dusting, dog poop pick up, or dishes earn points towards allowance. At the end of every week, the more points you have, the better the allowance. This way, if you don't do anything extra, you don't get anything extra. They know it and ambition is a good thing.
kids, allowance and chres
I believe in both. A family is a unite and each person in the family should help in maintaning the family. Chores should not be considered a job. But I do believe that if you want to prepare your child for the work force - be it a employee or business owner... you should help them find work [ be it at home, or selling lemonade ]. http://money-and-kids.blogspot.com It should not be one or the other, it should be both.
