Thanks
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I was at my wits end last night when I started looking for some answers online. My 6 year old, I thought was just having issues with diarrhea and not wiping well. He would always try to hide from me when he went to the toilet. And he showed me a stash of poopy underwear in his toy chest. I was just livid, to be honest. But I started making a chart of what he was eating and when he was going to the bathroom, and didn“t seem to get anywhere until last night when I happened upon this site. I now have read everything I can on encopresis. I was so relieved to know what his problem is and so upset at myself for thinking he was just being lazy. The poor boy was totally stopped up. After a natural laxative this morning, he was able to alleviate the major problem, but now we have to do the retraining and relearning of the sensations that he has forgotten as well as change his diet. Again, thanks for sharing, it helped me so much!
bowl control in seven year old
Thankyou, we have had an ongoing problem lasting about a year. Our son holds on and holds on and soils his pants. We have noticed that at times there will be no problem for weeks and then several weeks of a severe problem. We have had him seen by a doctor and ruled out any physical problem.
We are going to try the suggestions with the reward chart. We are calling time spent on the Toilet office hours and have a box full of books and toys for him.
Hopefully this may work.
We will get him eating some fruit such as kiwi fruit to loosen up his bowls.
If we can't resovle this problem over the next few weeks perhaps we will have to see a specialist.
We have also had a similiar problem with peeing, which after the specialist put him on an alarm system with a baby G watch going off every 4 hours has improved a great deal.
I just want to add our son is a lovely person. Has excellent behaviour at school and is one of the top students in his class.
I guess every kid has some issue.
