Poor Sportsmanship

A parent asks our expert, "How would you handle a nine-year-old boy who is an incredibly talented baseball player but has a bad attitude?"
poor sportsmanship
You hit the nail on the head regarding my 6 yr. old grandson. Unbelievable poor sport since he was a toddler. His rage is growing with every loss even though he is an amazing athlete. Last night while playing with cousins and brother he started crying, screaming, and hitting sports equipment because his 4 yr. cousin hit a "home run". I am concerned about his behavior not getting any better because he seems to be escalating with anger.

Poor Sport here too
Wow - I'm not sure how long ago this was written, but while reading the question I thought to myself "Did my husband write this and not tell me?" We are going through the exact same thing with our 9 year old son. He also is a very talented athlete, and has the same exact reactions when he does not play a perfect or almost perfect game. Not only does he do this in the sports he plays (baseball and football) but in school, board games.....really just about anything. I will definately be reading the books suggested. Please let me know if you have an update and if you have found anything that worked well for you. We are desperately searching for our good sport. We know he is there!
