Cell Phones at School: Should They Be Allowed?

The question of whether cell phones should be allowed in schools has been hotly debated over the years. Check out the pros and cons to permitting cell phones in school.
My thoughts.
i think that kids should be able to have their phones at school. What if they had an emergency and had to call someone or vice versa with their parents what if they needed to get in touch with their children?
Cell phones
No. If they need your help, they can run like f**k to home. If they can't run home...you live too far away!
cell phones at scool
I think they should be aloud because: If they are on the bus and get in a car accident and no one has a phone you wouldent know would you? The anser to that is you would not know about it butt if they had a phone on the bus You would be able to find out and see if he/she was okay.

*******i know it best******* when i was in school the other day i was watching this innocent girl walking down the hall and then some kid saw this girl put her bag down and then he stole her cell phone. he was trying to act like he didn't do anything but he didn't know i was watching him.
fones @ school
i think they should but if they are to expensive that could get stolen so don't go and spend money on them
should cell phones be in school
I think it depends on if the child is responsible and if they deserve it. but there are some important things about having cell phones in school because what if they stayed after and something happened you would want to stay in contact with them so in some cases yes.

I am a father of 6 children. One has graduated high school and two others currently attend.
Our local high scholl has a zero tolerence policy on electronics, including cell phones and i-pods.
Last year my oldest daughter had her $350.00 ipod confiscated from her at school. They lost it, and all they could do was say they are not responsible and they appologize.
So I instructed my other children to refuse to give up thier devices.
Now my 15 year old son was suspended for insubordinance, when he politely declined to give up his cell phone, on my direct order. The school is now in the process of trying to remove my son for missing too much school.
I am filing a lawduit against the school and will update this as I can.
cell phones
I would definetley have to disagree with those two ludacris statements. Cell phones are essential to kids at school, I for one was at school during 9/11 and my father was in the Boston area where I just heard there was a terrist attack where he was! I was absolutely terrified, my first instinct was to pull out my cellular phone and see if he was okay. Cell phones are handy for emergencies. Also for after-school activities, they need to reach their parents if they aren't old enough to drive! And what if you were having a bad day? You could text your parent/guardian to come pick you up, I dount anyone at school understands how you feel so why ask to use the phone in the office? Also, the school does not need to know every PERSONAL (girls especially) problem you have! I do not find it disrespectful in any way, if the student is texting, he/she is probally extreemley bored with that teacher. Therefore, cell phones should not be banned at school.

Cell phones at school
I am a high school principal in Texas. From my stand point, cell phones are becoming a huge problem in public schools. In the last semester I have had to respond to the following incidents all related to cell phones at school: cell phones going off in class, text messaging during class, taking pictures of a test, storing test information for cheating, text messaging friends with answers to specific test questions, cell phones being stolen, harassing or bullying other students, taking pictures of students without consent, taking and sending inappropriate pictures of students, pornography... Cell phones are becoming more and more of a disruption to the learning process. Every school I have been affiliated with, allows students to use the school office phone to call home if necessary. There are very few good reasons for students to have cell phones at school.
