February 1, 2009 12:20 AM I write backwards
I was so bored in school. I entertained myself by writing backwards. My mother had a wedding invitation that was engraved on to a copper dish. It was engraved, mirror image backwards. I was fasinated with this dish. I loved taking it to the hall mirror and hold it up so I could read it. The creativity of someone doing this dish fasinated me. So, I taught myself to write, mirror image backwards. I am left handed, and I credit my ability to do this from that feature I call myself! I hated to listen to the teacher. Up there, going on and on. Sounding like he was reciting a book. How boring that is....

October 31, 2008 9:36 AM Notes on writing backwards
I too was and am I guess a little concerned. My daughter is five and attends private school, And writes some letters backwards or sometimes even upside down. She knows her letters and numbers and in my opinion is extremely smart on all the day to day conversations and understanding of day to day activities. As well as her numbers and letters. Her teacher is really insisting that we have her tested for dyslectic or any other sort of learning disabilities. I am going through the motions, but have talked to several other kinder teachers and they all tell me that this is normal. We had a parent teacher conference and were tolled that knowing her numbers out of order up to one hundred was something she also did not grasp the concept of what comes before or after. We work with her daily and give positive re-enforcement but some suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I notice my daughter starting to get frustrated with the notes coming home from the teacher regularly. I don’t want my daughter not like school and enjoy school, but I also don’t want to be too relaxed with the learning part of what school is about.
Concerned Father.
