Is there any help out there in the universe to give a Grandparent a rest. Foster homes get respet(break). Why can't Grandparents. I'm in great need of babysitters. What do you do in a case like that. Knowing your on fixed income that did not expand when you took on the responsibilities of caring for children. But once in a blue moon you get a chance to bond with adults your age and mental equal or even a vacation and can't go because you have children and no sitter.
I am a single Grandmother that is raising 4 grandchildren (14,10,8,8). I've had these children for 5 years. I have ben retired for 6 years. I retired in August of 2002 and children came to live with me in November of 2003. Short lived retirement. On top of babysitter problems, I get no money from the state to cloth or feed these children so now everything is on me and my fixed income.
I relocated from Rochester, NY to Memphis, Tn with these children so immediate family is non exist, along with the fact of knowing anyone. It was a move best for the children and myself as I was tired of being cold for 50+ years.
