A good start here. I disagree with buying pre-fab cables. If you're going to the trouble of running wire in walls, buy a roll of bulk cable and learn how to put the ends on. Not only is it a lot cheaper, but you'll always have the 'right' length cable handy. It is also a lot easier to 'fish' cable with a bare end than with a connector on it. I just wired my house with Cat6 network cable. One box of 1000' did the whole house with some runs of over 100'. Also you didn't talk about drilling through 'blocks' which are sometimes inside walls between the studs.
