Why wasn't I surprised to see this was written by a man? Being too embarrassed to feed in public is a reason to stop breastfeeding? Um, that's why they make nursing covers and blankets, and pumps so you bottle feed if you're really that shy. I would seriously hope any mom puts her child's needs above her own body image issues or perceived concerns of the public (really, people don't care if you don't make a big deal of it).
I also found the repeated mention of working moms needing to wean to be outdated. Yes, pumping is annoying, but certainly doable. Lactation rooms are very common now, and it only takes about 20 mins, 2 or 3 times a day. There was no mention of the fact that working moms who pump will have fewer sick days, potentially better sleep, and be able to retain that bonding experience at the end of a long day. Even moms who decide pumping is not for them don't need to wean completely - they can still nurse morning, evenings and weekends and their bodies will ajust. The female body is awesome that way!
Please get some new advice here, and preferably from a IBCLC.

A nice summary of the topic. Personally, I do believe that breast milk is best. However, I do think it is an individual decision and no mother should feel shamed or guily because she decides to bottle feed instead of breast feed. I nursed all 3 of mine, but also supplemented with formula. I enjoyed the bonding with my child by nursing, but there were also times when the convenience of formula was very handy. There's a great discussion of this topic at www.opposingviews.com/questions/will-formula-feeding-harm-my-baby Experts from both sides debate the issue and make some good points.
