My 21-year-old son moved back home after dropping out of college and quitting his job. A few months and 2 jobs later, he is again unemployed. He's not a bad kid--no drugs, no criminal record, no pregnant girlfriends. I think he's depressed--he's not the honor student he was in high school--but, since he's no longer in college, he's not covered by our insurance. My husband's solution is to kick him out on the street "to force him to be responsible." My thinking is that there'd be fewer homeless people if families would take care of their own. So we kick him out on the street and then what? "Not my problem"?
