I don't think this is a situation of being "FORCED" this child is apart of a pre-school class that is teaching him the beginnings of school. There is a time to socialize and play with toys and at that time they were not doing that. Taking cues from children who at 3 will always choose "play time" is insane. There are not enough good teachers as is and definitely not enough for one on one for a child to make a choice on participating in a class activity or socializing and playing with the other kids because that is how he is feeling right now. What happens when he is actually in school should he have a designated teacher sitting next to him when he doesn't want to do math, science or reading because he wants to "play" or "socialize" while the other kids are learning??? If you want to always take cues from you child then keep him at home because he will ruin it for everyone. Everyone loses out when the teacher has to take time out to take cues from a 3 year old who would rather play.....
