It's About Gun Access, Not Control

Family Safety Expert Gavin de Becker writes about guns in America. He argues it's not about politics, it's about safety. Here's how to keep your kids safe.
Lying with statistics
UncleBuck illustrates the art of lying with statistics. I'm sure we could take his numbers and apply them to Ambulance drivers, or firemen and find that they are very fatal to individuals using Uncle Buck's methods. Of course Doctors see sick people. Almost every person about to die visits a doctor. in that condition almost any mistake is fatal. I doubt that every sick person visits or fires a gun. However, guns turn very healthy people into dead ones in a matter of seconds. Perhaps the more appropriate comparison would be between guns and blenders or another appliance. UncleBuck, clearly you aren't actually a parent. You and your ilk in the NRA throw such dumb mud in the air to prevent a meaningful conversation. I pray that your caviler attitude towards guns doesn't haunt your family the way thousands are affected each year by suicide, accidental killing or domestic violence.

It's about access
I agree. Gun control means I hit what I'm shooting at. Gun access determines whether or not I have a gun available to shoot anything. Here's some more interesting info: Doctors
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is
700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians
per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171. (Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of
Health and Human Services.)
Now think about this:
Guns
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S.
is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths
per gun owner is .000188.
(Statistics courtesy of FBI)
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT
ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
Consider this. Our public schools go out of their way to teach our children, CHILDREN, all they can about sex - except how to respect it and treat it appropriately - but when it comes to firearms, the big push is not for education (because we can't seem to teach our kids anything of value) but for restricting access. Given the philosophy on sex education and drug information, I'd think we'd be teaching our kids everything we could about guns. They're just going to find one, anyway.
