Oh my gosh, someone going through the EXACT thing we are. They kept telling me the last half of last year, "her brain just hasn't grown enough to get it.". She was doing average work up unitl Dec. Then she started to backslide....I mean she was getting so stressed out, that she wasn't even spelling her name right. Everyone has told me that she doesn't have a learning disability, but that she's immature and to give her the "gift" of time. When even metioned to my daughter, she would get so upset and in tears, I knew that I couldn't do that do her. We pushed forward this year and they are saying she is a year behind her classmates. Well most of them are 8 going on 9!! How fair is that? We did enroll her in the Learning Rx 6 month program. She is at 11 weeks now so about half. I've seen great results, but she isn't showing any of that in class. She has know from the begining, that her teacher didn't think she was "big enough' to get it. She heard the teacher say this about her. Ever since then, she has backslided. After all the research I've done and seeing her in the classroom. I know retention wouldn't help her at all. I even observed a kid struggling this year, who was held back in 1st. So what good did that do....and now he's become a kid who is acting out and doesn't want to be where he is. I can only hope that I have made the right decision now, by pulling all my kids out of that school and into one that doesn't promote "retention". I might end up homeschooling if I have to. I hope that Learning Rx does what it says it does. We are paying a lot of money for it.
Keep up the good fight..
