Going Green: Top 10 Household Products to Avoid

If you are ready to start going green, take a look at this list of 10 items you should avoid buying and using in your home.
Going green
Qn 7 says "using more incandescent bulbs."
Don't you mean using LESS incandescent and MORE CFL's? That would change the responses.

CFL's
We replaced every bulb in our home with CFL's (except for those fixtures that have dimmers and then we even removed one dimmer so we could use CFL's in that chandelier). The first month we saved $50 on our electric bill. HOWEVER, we have found that the non name brand bulbs blow out quickly so there's no savings there because of the replacement costs. Although the name brand CFL's are more $, they truly do last so that's where the long term savings comes in.

Plastic Utensils
Instead of using plastic utensils for parties we purchased 4 sets of inexpensive flatware that look similar to our everyday set. That way we never have to buy plastic which saves $ in the long run and we aren't adding to the local landfill. We also use paper towels made from recycled paper then put them in our composter after use.
