How come parents nowadays think that all we teens want to do is sit around, "having fun", because the "teen years" are supposed to be fun? If you set low expectations for us, we will sink to meet them. Don't downplay our intelligence! Why require a C in school? Why not an A+? It's NOT too hard! We will learn and grow, we WILL rise to meet high expectations because God made us intelligent and discerning! He will help us to meet high goals and make some ourselves, but in the meantime you musn't make us feel babied.

Thank you for posting this article. I'm a parent with a very angry teenager on my hands and I found this very helpful! He does think I am unfair, while I think I'm (almost) perfectly fair! I'll try to use this technique next time I ask him to do something. Again, thank you! :-)
