Sportsmanship - It's Not Whether You Won or Lost
I found something framed that my parents kept in their bedroom in Dublin, Ireland written in ancient celtic woven letters: "For When the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, He writes - not that you Won or Lost - but How You Played the Game." Does anyone know who wrote this? Grantland Rice, "Alumunus Football," Only the Brave and Other Poems, p. 144 (1941)seems to be credited a lot however, my version says Newbolt (would this be Cardinal Newbolt)? I'll post the original celtic version on my site www.GreatMomentsOfSportsmanship.com in the section called 'spread the moment' if anyone wants to view these ornate & splendid words. Also pls let me know who wrote it. maybe it's worth pinning on every team's notice board. best wishes

Sportsmanship
May I applaude your advise re sportsmanship. There's plenty of it out there but the media mostly don't use it. I've collected sportsmanship stories from 1908 to 2008 and guess what, there's more and more in recent years. If you've got any stories - pls tell me and I'll put them on my sportsmanshp blog or maybe even in the 2nd ed. of the Great Moments Of Sportsmanship book. best wishes
