I also have a son who is very bored with school. He will be attending 3rd grade this year but we noticed his indifference with school in 1st grade and it manifested itself intensely at the very beginning of 2nd grade. When he entered K he was at the 97% percentile for his age/grade but really enjoyed school because he was in a CTT class and they had him "mentoring" other struggling students. First grade was OK and he did very well academically but when 2 gr. came around he was so bored and disgusted with school. I approached the teacher, asst. principal and parent coordinator asking for help and more challenging work but it all fell on deaf ears. He was tested in Jan. for the gifted and talented program and placed at the 95th pctle which placed him into the program. Only problem was there were no seats available. Now what. I cannot go back and face another year like last year. I will lose my son for good. He already started telling me last year how he "hated" school and this was from a kid who does very well academically.
