I'm sorry, but I am so sick of articles that pooh-pooh LD's by saying that the kids are usually very bright or gifted.What if your child isn't?This article could have been written for my son. He was DX'd with LD's in the first grade. The bottom line is this: My son hates learning.My husband and I are lower-middle class and we both work. We work damn hard to keep a roof and food in the fridg. So homeschooling isn't even remotely an option. Since we both work, we aren't eligable for any grants or programs that would enable our son to go to a school exclusively for LD kids. If I was a crack-smoking prostitute and my husband was in prison, our child would be able to go to Kennedy Kreiger for free.So what's going to happen? I have no idea. I will probably keep begging the school system to 'just pass him on' so he can at least get a H.S. diploma. It won't be easy, and I'll have to grovel and lick alot of boots, but I guess it will happen. Or not.
