There is a great book named "Cats have Asperger's Syndrome". This book made me laugh, cry - but describes my son and maybe other Asperger children to a tee! OMG - a great book to read if you want to describe to another non-asperger's mother/father what your child is like and how he reacts to every day life!
We live in Nottingham (Perry Hall, Md.) and my son Nick who is almost 14 - is so smart (book-wise) but is so naive to the world - he is so insecure but is the best son as far as responsible. You give him a job and he will do it before you even ask and also he comes home from school - I never have to ask him twice to do his homework - it is done! He is very into "rules" which is not all bad for a "teenager" these days! However, sometimes it would be good for him to be a "little" more adventorous or less cautious but you can not have it both ways.
I have my own Asperger's support group in Perry Hall, Maryland - that has helped my son Nick and myself to have some friends that are the same and for the parents to feel like they are not alone!
I started this group in September of 2008 with the first support group at my house - only one person showed up - now I have about 20 members and we all feel like we (kids and parents) are friends. You leave the support group meeting and/or get-together with the kids feeling like you are not the only one out there with a child like this! There are more than you think out there!
