As a teacher, I really believe that parents can help so much by asking what students learned in school...but do not accept the answer math, or science...get to the specifics. When a student struggles at first explaining things, don't panic. It is much harder to explain to you than to kind of understand it themselves, but the important thing is consistency. When they know they will be expected to "teach" you something every day, students will get better at it.
It's a great day to learn something new!

I am so glad and assured to know that I don't have to show up at classes often in order to show supports and involvement at my children's education. Because both my husband and I are working full time, we don't have a lot of time to be present at school and class for volunteer work, which I felt guilty before. But we actively do things at home, such as reading, writing, do projects, cooking etc. that involve some reading, math, manipulating etc. Thanks for the article to point out that time together with kids means a lot to the kids. I know some of my kids' teacher told us "thank you for working with the kids at home" and now I think they really appreciate parents' such involvement.
