How to Raise a Reader

This article advises how to get your children interested in reading at a young age.
Raising readers
Hi. I just found your web site last week, while I was searching for "tips for raising readers" that would complement the ones I had already provided on my own blog. This series of articles parallels the ideas I've been trying to convey. I liked them so much that I "tweeted" them on Twitter!
I started my blog in February 2009 to encourage parents (moms specifically) to help their children to become lifelong learners and readers. As a parent of 2 very advanced readers, I can tell you that the single most important gift a parent can give to a child is time spent reading together.
Whether you are the parent of a toddler who looks at board books, or a tween who reads independently, it's so important to visit your local library on a regular basis. There's something for everyone there (you just have to discover what that "something" is), and it's a free resource that many families have access to.
So, if you want your children to love books, show them that you love them yourself! Read with them, and alongside them, as often as possible.
Enthusiastically,
Dawn Morris, M.A.
