In a collaborative effort, police officers from several law enforcement agencies swept through the Cathedral Housing Development Tuesday, arresting about a dozen suspects believed to be involved in drug trafficking and other illegal activities.

Sun, Sirens, and Murder

I sat, parked outside a Jamaican restaurant, looking forward to a curry shrimp dinner with white rice and mixed vegetables.

A young black man walked down the street. He wore discolored blue jeans and a grey sweater. His Afro hair was a mess, nappy and uncombed.

First Names and Crime: Can your name make you bad?

A study published in the latest issue of Social Science Quarterly (Volume 90 Issue 1) found a correlation between unpopular first names and crime. Researchers David Kalist and Daniel Lee cross-referenced a popularity name index against the names of kids in the juvenile justice system, and found that both white and black juveniles with unpopular names were more likely to be delinquents.
