Top Ten, Er, 150 ListThere are a lot of food books out there. Traditional cookbooks, diet missives, food lifestyle guides and more flood the shelves of bookstores and libraries. So it is rare that I find a food book that piques my interest enough to thoroughly peruse it, and even rarer that I get excited enough about the book that I want to recommend it. And yet, a book my Mother-in-Law shared with me did just that; in fact, it got me so excited I found myself sharing random facts about the antioxidants in horseradish to others. It takes a lot to get me talking about horseradish.

What's up with all the salads?I realized as I was prepping today's post that unintentionally I ended up doing all of my posts about salad recipes this week. Perhaps it is the waning summer days and the realization that all-too-soon we'll be cooking more soups and stews and less salads. Next time you cook rice for a stir-fry or other dish, make extra and freeze it. Then you will have rice on hand for recipes, like this one below. Beyond the rice, dressing and black beans, this recipes changes a little bit each time I make it. I have added corn, cucumber or omitted the celery.

Garden CalzonesBetween our garden and our CSA, our produce drawers overfloweth. Here's a fun way to use vegetables, with the added bonus of them being "hidden" in a calzone (read: picky eaters might be more apt to eat them). You can use any combination of vegetables you wish, even customizing each calzone as you make it. We used our favorite homemade pizza dough, but commercially made dough works great too. July 31, 2009
Squashed SkewersIsn't it funny what little kids sometimes find funny? Case in point: I was preparing this easy side dish of grilled yellow squash and my five year old son R asked me what I was making. I replied I was making yellow squash skewers, but he thought he heard "squashed skewers." Perhaps it was the word "squashed" or that the words sound funny if you say them again and again (try saying "squashed skewers" five times fast!), but R found the whole idea hilarious. Whether you find them funny or not, this is a super simple recipe for grilled skewers of squash. May 20, 2009
A virtual trip to MexicoIf an Asian grill recipe isn’t up your alley this Memorial Day weekend, why not spin on over to Mexico and whip up some Grilled Fish Tacos? SPH made these tacos for Mother’s Day and I declared that they would have to be the new Mother’s Day dinner tradition. I *love* these tacos and they are so healthful and full of flavor. And look how beautiful your counter will look as you prepare to make and eat them:
