That's a wrapA new week is upon us and with it comes new busyness and excitement. R and G both have Halloween/Harvest parties at school this week, Thursday brings Trick or Treating (still don't understand why we have it on the 29th this year) and SPH has a busy work week too. Each weekend I try and come up with a menu plan for the week to help ease the stress of each night's meal. With an extra busy week, I tend to focus on easy-to-prepare favorites, some of which can be made ahead or in the slow cooker.

Jenny's Lunch BunchLong before I was a mom, I was an aunt. I still remember when SPH’s sister Jenny had her first baby, our sweet niece Corinne. I was thrilled to be an aunt, and at the same time, to have a mommy mentor in Jenny.

Crustless wonderWhen I had lunch with T. for the first time at school on Monday, one thing was made blatantly clear: this is a girl who likes her lunch. And while she had fun talking and being silly with her friends, she also worked her way dutifully through all the compartments in her bento box, until there was little, if anything at all, left behind. This is a girl whose highlight of her week last week was getting 60 cents one day to buy milk. Chocolate milk. And a girl who likes it when I make silly sandwiches with silly names for her like Ants on a Pillow

Go FigureGo figure--R won't eat PB&J, grilled cheese and rarely touches mac n' cheese, but he loves blue cheese, oysters and olives.
While he eats his fair share of typical kid foods and snacks, trying to figure out what to pack for lunches away from home can present a challenge, as typical sandwiches don't fly for R.

Winner SidesLast weekend when we were visiting R and G's Grandma Sheri and Papa, Grandma Sheri whipped up this orzo dish. It seems that every time we visit, I come back with some new recipe to take home with me. Grandma Sheri always has a wonderful smorgasbord of foods when we come to visit, but I have come to especially anticipate her wonderful side dishes.

Reduce, reuse, and eat!So, we all like saving money, don't we? YES! And we all like being earth-friendly, right? RIGHT! Well, my sister recently invested in a couple of reusable items that make packing lunch easier, more earth-friendly, and less wasteful. All of which makes food taste so much better!

Homemade UncrustablesYesterday I made mention of the peanut butter recall and how the Sweet Pea home has continued to use our jarred peanut butter. It made me think of an idea I have been wanting to share with you.

BLTs with a slice of CIf you know me, you know I love bacon. Love it. Can’t get enough of it. I once gave up meat for Lent and it was a piece of cake, except for my love of bacon. If there was a tasty vegetarian form of bacon, I think I could go veggie in a heartbeat. In other words, I really, really like bacon. We’ve been playing around with making paninis in the Sweet Pea home, and I have to tell you, I am hooked. We don’t even own a panini maker, but if you have a grill pan and a heavy pan, you can make them just like this:
